Last weekend, I got hit with my third stomach flu in the last eight months. These are the joys of having a child, I am back to having stomach flus and ear infections. Of course, I was the only one who got sick so maybe I really shouldn’t be blaming Ashok. Anyway, I only had a few good days last week where I could have run and I was pretty much stuck in bed. By the time I was feeling better, it was back to work for a couple of absolutely lovely 14 hour days. I finally got back to running this weekend but I am slow and it is HOT. It was at least 80 degrees here yesterday and is shaping up to be the same today. It’s kind of fun, but isn’t it still February? Weird.

Dear Santa,
This has been a rough month for me. I’ve had back to back colds, a couple of low grade fevers and the always exciting pink eye. Then on Friday I barfed all over Mommy’s car and yesterday I barfed on her, Daddy and me on the plane. The doctor says I have stomach flu. I am tired of being sick and would like to stop hurling before our five hour flight to Atlanta on Thursday. Do you think you could set that up?
Also, Mommy wants some bourbon.
Love,
Ashok

It’s 6:30 pm, Ashok is throwing a mini-tantrum because I won’t let him bite me or pull the cat’s tail, I’m nauseated from eating too much leftover pizza for lunch and I have to leave in 90 minutes to drive 45 minutes to play a 60 minute rehearsal and drive 45 minutes home.
Only 3 more days of NaBloPoMo. I think I’m going to make it

I have secret shame.
Actually I guess it’s not so secret-if you ventured upstairs in my house you would discover it immediately. My deep, dark secret. Here it is-are you ready?

Dear God, the horror!
This is our upstairs hallway. Those boxes, the majority of them at least, have been sitting there since we moved in to this house. In May. In fact, not only have they been sitting there for months, but they have multiplied, like some parasitic virus. There’s all kinds of boxes in there, one for the portable air conditioner, one for the ceiling fan we put in, a shoebox, a box for a new duffel bag AND (bonus!) the old, broken-down duffel bag it is replacing! It’s like a little tapestry of our life. Someone keeps promising that the boxes will go away, be sent to the big recycling center in the sky, and yet somehow they are still there. Mocking me.
Of course, I guess I could actually deal with the boxes myself. But what would be the point of that? It’s so much easier to just torture myself and feel shameful every time I walk past them in the morning, or the evening. Oh! There they are again. At this rate, Ashok will probably start naming them soon and getting attached, dressing them up and having tea parties. Then they’ll have to stay forever.
I have been promised by another member of my household (the one who speaks in complete sentences) that the source of my secret shame will be dealt with this weekend, hopefully before my mother gets to town. I hope those boxes haven’t actually rooted themselves into the carpet.

Great. Now the dog’s mocking me too.

Inspired by one of Courtney’s posts, we had Boboli pizzas for dinner tonight. I haven’t made these in ages, but I was hooked on them in high school and college and made them ALL the time. Since Brian is an original crust kind of guy and a vegetarian, and I am a thin crust kind of girl and a carnivore, we made two separate pizzas. Here is a unflattering picture of them taken in the horrid fluorescent lighting of our kitchen. They were not nearly as attractive as Courtney’s but they were tasty, nonetheless.

Brian’s is on the left-green peppers, onions and some fancy-ass cheese on top that he found in the fridge. Mine, on the right, is chicken pesto sausage and mushrooms.
With the pizza we had a potato and roasted garlic soup which, although Brian described it as the consistency of runny mashed potatoes, was pretty damn good, too. The soup came from one of my favorite places to eat here in L.A.-Auntie Em’s Kitchen. Just about everything that comes out of that place is unbelievable-they do great breakfast and lunch and then the baked goods? Amazing. They are well known in town for their cupcakes but there is much more to be discovered there-and I have discovered just about all of them. Very soon we will be ordering a couple of delicious Chocolate Pecan Pies from them for Thanksgiving. Just thinking about those pies makes me drool…..

Ooof….I am feeling the heft of NaBloPoMo today. I think this is the first day that I honestly am at a loss for what to write. I ran this morning but it sucked, so nothing to report there. No exciting Ashok stories. I am doing things like laundry and sweeping up dog hair that provide me with no material.
Hang on…..the washing machine sounds like it might explode! Let’s go see…
False alarm. Crap.
Ok, then. Here are some links to other NaBloPoMo’ers that I am reading:
Kitty - she roped me into this (I shake my fist at you, woman!)
Courtney
Pretty
Ashley
Cagey
Runner Susan
That’s it. All I got.

Courtney, Kitty, Ashley and Cagey are all on board so I’ve decided to join up too:

Now I’d best stop writing lest I use up any good material before November.

My friend Kitty has issued a challenge to me and a few of other friends: join NaBloPoMo. Now, for those four or five of you who read this blog regularly this probably sounds like a ridiculous idea since you know that I only manage to post about once every couple of weeks, if I’m lucky. But, I am intrigued. I loved NaBloPoMo last year, it was really fun to see what people came up with and how they dealt with the task of posting every day for a month and since I only found out about it halfway through the month, it was too late to join. Of course, this year I have advance notice but I also have a one year old child on the verge of walking keeping my hands pretty busy. But, I have a lot of free time this November so it is possible….
I only have a few more days to decide. What do you think?
Anyone out there?
Anyone?
