I’m soooo tired….

February 3rd, 2007

….I haven’t slept a wink….or posted in a while.

We have been having some sleeping “issues” over here, to say the least. My adorable son, who previously would sleep in stretches of 7 or 8 hours, now refuses to sleep any longer than 4 hours at a time. Why does he hate me? Combine that with my going back to work more and more each week and you get a recipe for disaster. That disaster also includes my getting sick AGAIN. My third cold in as many months. Fuck.

But look! How can you resist the big brown eyes?

Hi, my name is Ashok. I rolled over for the first time this week, but I only do it for my mommy so now everyone thinks she’s crazy.

Thankfully, this cold (number 3!!!) is not too brutal so I am hoping to be back running again this week. It’s been a while and the weather has been gorgeous here this week, so I hope I can get out again soon.
Today, I’m heading out to the hospital to visit my sister. Her water broke a couple of days ago but she’s only 34 weeks pregnant and not yet officially in labor. That means she has to stay in bed, hooked up to a fetal monitor until Ashok’s cousin decides to show up (he obviously has a mind of his own already). Not fun for her, she’s seriously bored. I’m trying to think of fun things to bring with me-Courtney suggested I teach her to knit but I just remembered that she has carpal tunnel so that won’t work. I think I will bring chocolate, magazines and Uno. Any other ideas?

Oh MY. He is SO adorable. I thought MY kid had big eyes, but damn girl! Your kid has a couple of saucers! Too cute.

Ah, the sleeping. Just when you think you have it all figured out, they switch it up on you to keep it interesting. Teething, colds, sleep regressions — all just to play mind games with you. Bleh. Hang in there.

Just crumble up a few tylenol PMs into Ashoks dinner. I’m not a mother, but I woulld imagine that should do the trick.

I’m just kidding. Even I know- You Can’t Drug Your Baby.

For your sister: you can download This American Life off of Audible for 68 cents an episode. That is, in my opinion, a very good value. This American Life + Sudoku = Hours of entertainment.

Actually, you can drug your baby. You probably shouldn’t, but it can be done. Once a year, when my nephew, baby Charlie, goes on airplane to Florida to visit his Nonnie and Poppy, his daddy and mommy give him just a teensy bit of Children’s Benadryl to take the edge off. He then stops talking nonstop and sleeps on the plane and everyone is happy. I’m just saying, it’s possible…

Ahsok is so damn cute. Thank you for more unbelievable cuteness, and congrats on the roll over. I believe you.

    Hi Shalini-
When Courtney was here in December, she showed me your blog. I periodically check in since Henry is about the same age as Ashok. If you figure out his sleep issues, let me know because we are having the EXACT issue at our house. Henry is also refusing to nap and that doesn’t help things. I don’t think Charlie had this issue, so it is new to me. I spent the morning looking on the internet for books/advice on this topic.

And, I am also just recovering from 3 weeks of being sick with some funky virus that kicked me in the ass.

Not that I want anyone else to suffer like I have, but it feels good to know I am not the only one.

Hope you feel better soon. He sure is a cutie!

P.S. I really enjoyed your post about getting out of the house to go running. Sounds like my days of trying to get out of the house with a 3 year old and a baby!
